But it's a cost, and it adds up with utilities, rent, labor, medicine, etc. ![]() It's not exactly peanuts, and I'm not sure what source you're citing when you say that, but it's one operating cost of many, and like every other operating cost, it most certainly affects their profit margins. Vet clinics definitely take food costs into account regarding their operation. like, about vets learning about nutrition? Vets don't receive much in the way of nutritional training, nor are they really taught about how the pet food industry operates. you people think that a vet, who got a shitton of debt for a shitty salary, having to study their arse off in a competitive school, instead of just going to medicine and making a ton of money, is going to suggest something worse for your cat, just because they got a free pen with a Hill's logo on it? Seriously?!ĭata for nutrition training. People keep saying stuff like "vets get benefits from brand names" or "the vet school was sponsored by big brand". It makes sense if your cat has some rare allergies, but not for most cats. There aren't any known issues with cats on grain free, but you never know what unintended side-effects they discover in a couple of decades. We added a probiotic about 4 weeks into her transition and it really helped. The thing is, it's the big brands that do the research, and the smaller brands just use that research, and add some marketing gimmicks that sound good to people, but have no evidence to back it up, and are often meaningless terms when it comes to cat food, like "human grade", "organic", "holistic", etc.įor grain free, in dogs it actually can cause heart problems. We realized her GI needed some microbe replenishment. ![]() The parasites cleared and we were left with getting her in the healthiest shape possible. Mikita has never had parasites so this was new for us. She was having occasional diarrhea and soft poops for the first several weeks as we treated her for Giardia parasites. It took about 6 weeks before her poops were on point. Am I grossing you out? I knew how good Dahlia's poop game could be and we were determined to get her there. We were used to Mikita's raw fed, lightly scented small poops. Or, you feed raw too and you know what I'm talkin' about! The first poop Dahlia took when we adopted her was big, bulky and stinky. If you don't smell it, you must have a far away litter box. It's good to feel confident about your sources!Ĭat poop smells like cat poop and it stinks like heck, right? Wrong! Most of us are used to our cats taking a dump and clearing the room. Just be sure you're not purchasing old, bad or questionable meat. But I do know some people who buy lesser quality meats from the grocery store. Non-organic is less desirable (antibiotics that animals ingest are passed onto anyone who eats them). Ordering online or picking up organic meats from the grocery store works too. Purchase raw meat as close to the source as you can. ![]() Their meats are immediately frozen which keeps them extra fresh! If you're purchasing from a butcher or grocery store, immediately freeze meats for a minimum of 24 hours to deem any potential parasites inactive. One of our favorite places to purchase meats for snacks from is Hare Today. This is great prep for introducing raw meaty bones. ![]() Snacks: Pieces of raw muscle meat like chicken gizzard, chicken heart, rabbit cubes and venison chunks are great snacks our cats love! They offer jaw exercise and train a cat how to gnaw on a piece of meat.
